Crazy Chelsea Burn €330m in This Winter Transfer Window

Chelsea

The football transfer window this winter has closed on 31st January 2023, many deals have been done last month including some major signings from giant clubs.

The English Premier League is the most spending among the European five major leagues, nine EPL clubs are listed in the top ten transfers, while six of them are signed by Chelsea.

The Blue Lions showed their rich money power by consuming a total of 329 million Euros this winter to bring in eight new players.

On the last day before the transfer window closes, they pay 121m Euros to buy Enzo Fernandez from Portuguese club Benfica, making him the most expensive player ever in Premier League history.

Before this, the London club had signed Ukrainian striker Mykhailo Mudyrk from Donetsk Shakhtar with 70m Euros.

Boehly Spares No Expense

Chelsea new owner Todd Boehly hopes that by spared no expense, his club could recover from their poor performance this season sooner.

The Blues is now in tenth place of Premier League, 21 points away from the leading Arsenal, ten behind number four Manchester United which is the lowest position to advance into the UEFA Champions League next season.

Boehly had also brought in French centre-back Benoit Badiashile with 38m Euros, English winger Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven 35m and French right back Malo Gusto from Lyon with 30m. All of them are among the top ten football transfers this winter.

The American billionaire will check if his new squad could play differently in their Premier League game against Fulham this Friday.

The Bet on Enzo

Enzo Fernandes is not just the sixth most expensive player in football history, he is also the highest value Argentinian player ever.

The 22 years old midfielder escalated his reputation as a top class superstar with outstanding performance in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, helping his national team to win the golden trophy and get himself the Young Player award.

However, without experience in the European major leagues, the new rising star gives the Lions’ fans a question as to if he could adapt to the EPL environment.

The Blue London had a poor start of their deal on Joao Felix who loaned from Atletico Madrid earlier. The Portuguese striker got a red card in his Premier League debut and was suspended for three matches.

Jorginho to Arsenal

As new stars joined, Chelsea has sent out a few players to make room for the current squad.

Jorginho transferred to Arsenal with a total of 12 million Pounds. The 31 years old Italian midfielder is expected to improve the Gunners’ organisation of attacking.

Before this, the league number one had signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton with 24 million Euros.

Club manager Mikel Arteta wishes to bring in Moises Caicedo from the Seagulls too, but their offer with 70 million Pounds on the Ecuadorian defending midfielder had been rejected.

Meanwhile, Newcastle bought Anthony Gordon from Everton with 45.6m Euros, the third highest transfer fee this winter.

Cody Gakpo who joined Liverpool from Eindhoven with 42m Euros, number four in the list.
