EPL: Chelsea - Liverpool draw, Man United face Brentford

LONDON – The English Premier League season 2022/23 continued this Tuesday and Wednesday to complete the make-up games.

In a focused match as the make-up game of matchday 8 on Tuesday night, Chelsea and Liverpool drew 0-0 at Stamford Bridge, each collecting one point.

Both teams put their efforts to seek three points yesterday, but lack of luck and low efficiency from their strikers gave no goals in the ninety minutes.

The home team attacker Kai Havertz wasted at least two great chances, but finished with a hand ball foul and off the target in a one-on-one situation.

Other stars from both giant clubs like Joao Felix, Enzo Fernandez, Mateo Kovacic, Darwin Nunez, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah also failed to score on the night.

The Blue Lions who just sacked their team manager Graham Potter last Sunday, unable to hail a victory in the debut of their interim head coach Bruno Saltor.

Blues and Reds away from Top 4

After the tie game, Chelsea and Liverpool are in eleventh and eighth places of the EPL table, one step away from the top four.

The Blue London club holds 39 points now, 11 behind number five’s Manchester United with nine matches left, basically missing the European competition next season.

The Reds hold 43 points with ten more games to play, still stand a slight hope to at least compete in the Europa League next season.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s squad will face a bigger challenge by visiting Arsenal this Sunday, which is being doubtful to beat the leading team with brilliant condition.

Upcoming: United Vs Brentford

There will be another match to be focused on Wednesday night. Manchester United will meet Brentford in the make-up game of matchday 25.

The show in Old Trafford was postponed before due to the FA Cup quarter final.

The Red Devils are desperate to recover from their low performance recently, which had lost twice and drawn once in their last three EPL matches, conceding nine goals and scoring none.

Erik ten Hag’s squad is now in fifth place with 50 points, the same points as Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur but has a worse goals difference.

The home team is urged to forget their 0-2 defeat to Newcastle three days ago, and restore their strength especially in attack, especially Marcus Rashford who hadn’t scored for three games.

However, United is unable to form their best formation, as their best defending midfielder Casemiro is still in suspension. His replacements, Fred and Scott McTominay could only fulfil the Brazilian’s role by putting more efforts.

Upcoming: West Ham Vs Newcastle

Meanwhile, Newcastle will visit West Ham United on the same night.

The Magpies expect to maintain their remarkable performance during their victory against United last Sunday, to secure third place whether the Red Devils win or not on another side.

The Hammers are in 15th place with 27 points, the same points as number 18’s Bournemouth, striving to gain three points to avoid falling into the relegation zone.
