EPL Matchday 22: Arsenal and City Lost, MU to 3rd Place

English Premier League

LONDON – Both the top two of the English Premier League lost in the matchday 22 last weekend, making the competition of top five getting exciting.

In the clash of the giants from Big Six on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester City 1-0 at home, thanks to the precious goal from Harry Kane.

The English striker became the top scorer of club history with 267 goals, surpassing Jimmy Greaves. He is also the third player in EPL history who scored more than 200 goals, after Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney.

With the victory, Antonio Conte’s squad remained in fifth place with 39 points, one point behind Newcastle but one more game played.

The Cities keep pursuing Arsenal with 45 points, a five points gap but one more game played.

Gunners’ Second Loss This Season

In the match earlier on Saturday, the Gunners missed a chance to expand their leading advantage by losing 0-1 to Everton at Goodison Park, after the only goal by James Tarkowski in the 60th minute.

The Toffees showed their remarkable improvement in the debut of their new club manager Sean Dyche, who replaced Frank Lampard before the weekend.

Arsenal got their second loss this EPL season, giving themselves a stress before their clash with the City on 15th February at Emirates Stadium.

Red Devils’ Tough Win

Manchester United caught the opportunity to get closer to top two, by defeating Crystal Palace 2-1 at Old Trafford.

A penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes and another goal from the fiery striker Marcus Rashford sent the Red Devils to third place, two points above Newcastle.

The Magpies drew 1-1 against West Ham United to leave from top three.

United’s best defending midfielder Casemiro got a red card and will be suspended in coming league games.

Chelsea Draw, Liverpool Lose

Chelsea was still unable to hail a victory after spending 330 million Euros in the winter transfer window, they could only draw 0-0 against Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

A good performance by new signed midfielder Enzo Fernandez with 121m Euros secured the Blue Lions from conceding a goal, yet failed to make a score.

Graham Potter’s squad went up a step to ninth place, one point above Liverpool but one more game played.

The Reds are still in poor condition this season, they lost 0-3 to Wolverhampton in the away game, the third loss in their last four Premier League matches.

Jurgen Klopp’s team is 11 points away from top four, struggling to secure a ticket to the UEFA Champions League next season.

Upcoming: MU Vs Leeds

Manchester United will meet Leeds United this Wednesday night in the make-up game of the EPL matchday 8.

If Erik ten Hag’s team gets a victory, they will equalise the points as the City.

The visiting club, who are in 17th place of the Premier League, just sacked their head coach Jesse Marsch yesterday.

The EPL matchday 23 will continue this weekend.
