EPL Matchday 27: Man United 0-0, Casemiro Gets Red Again

Casemiro

MANCHESTER – Manchester United lost two points after a 0-0 draw against Southampton in the English Premier League season 2022/23 matchday 27 on Sunday.

More worse, the Red Devils’ best defending midfielder Casemiro was getting a direct red card in the first half, resulting in a suspension for four matches.

At Old Trafford, the home team failed to score a goal for two consecutive league games, after the 0-7 tragic loss against Liverpool in the previous match.

Casemiro tackled the Saints’ player Carlos Alcaraz, the referee showed a yellow card but then turned to a direct red after he reviewed the action through the VAR system.

This is the Brazilian’s second red card this season, he had been sent off during the EPL match against Crystal Palace before and banned for three games, which was returned in the Carabao Cup final.

Double Hit for Red Devils

Due to the repeated mistakes, the 31 years old former Real Madrid star will be raised to four suspended matches, including the FA Cup quarter final against Fulham next Sunday, plus the EPL games against Newcastle, Brentford and Everton.

He could only return to the Premier League on 15th April by visiting Nottingham Forest in an away game.

However, Casemiro is still able to play in the European event, which means he will show up in the Europa League round of 16 second leg against Real Betis this Thursday.

The Brazilian’s absence gave United head coach Erik ten Hag a huge trouble to find his replacement, while the others apparently couldn’t match his ability and function.

Arsenal Easy Win in London Derby

In a London derby on Sunday, Arsenal easily beat Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage, holding their leading advantage of five points over the second place Manchester City.

Belgian winger Leandro Trossard performed a “hat-trick assists”, which contributed to all goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard.

The Gunners hailed five consecutive league wins, having a bright chance to win the EPL since 19 years ago with eleven matches left.

Man City had a tough victory 1-0 over Crystal Palace in the away game, thanks to the penalty kick from top striker Erling Haaland, to keep their pressure on the throne.

Chelsea Win, Liverpool Lose

After being unable to win for six games, Chelsea is celebrating three wins in a row by beating Leicester City 3-1 at King Power Stadium.

The Blue Lions showed a powerful recovery by dominating the match, netting three goals by Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and captain Mateo Kovacic.

Graham Potter’s squad beat Leeds United 1-0 in the last EPL matchday, and eliminated Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 with a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Liverpool again showed their unstable condition, losing 0-1 to Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium.

The Reds couldn’t continue their fiery performance in their epic victory over Manchester United last week, losing three points and were unable to get closer to top four.

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Nottingham Forest 3-1 at home to firm their fourth position, credited to double scores from Harry Kane and another goal from Son Heung-Min.

Alexander Isak and Miguel Almiron’s goals helped Newcastle beat Wolverhampton 2-1 at St. James’ Park, chasing tight on top four for a ticket into the UCL next season.
