EPL matchday 31: City closer to Arsenal, Man United to No 3

Manchester City

LONDONManchester City is only four points behind Arsenal with one game less to play in the English Premier League season 2022/23.

In the London derby last Sunday, Arsenal could only draw 2-2 against West Ham United at London Stadium, reducing their leading advantage in the EPL table.

The Gunners had a pretty start in the early ten minutes, with scores from Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard, giving them a relaxed condition in the remaining time.

However, the loose attitude of the visiting players caused the Hammers to perform a powerful comeback. A penalty kick from Said Benrahma in the first half and the equalising goal from Jarrod Bowen in the 54th minute led the home team to secure one point.

Mikel Arteta’s squad felt disappointed after the tie game, not just turning three points to one, also unable to win in the Premier League for two consecutive matches.

Lose four points in two games

Arsenal also drew 2-2 with Liverpool in the previous EPL game, the same scenario as they led 2-0 but conceding two goals before full time.

By wasting four points in their last two games, the Gunners are now standing unsteadily on top of the EPL table with 74 points, four points above Manchester City with one more match played.

The Red London has a tough schedule in the remainder of this season. After playing against Southampton at home this Friday, they will meet City, Chelsea, Newcastle and Brighton within 18 days.

The clash between the Blue Moons and the Gunners at Etihad Stadium on 26th April might figure out the winner of the Premier League which finished in May.

Haaland braces Man City’s victory

On Saturday, the Cities defeated Leicester City 3-1 at home, thanks to double scores from Erling Haaland and a fantastic long shot from John Stones.

Haaland collected a total of 47 goals this season in all competitions, continuing to update the goal record of a player in EPL history.

The Norwegian netted 32 goals in 28 league matches this season, three more to break the record of EPL goals in a season held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole.

This should be less difficult for the 22 years old forward as there are eight matches to go.

Man United win, Newcastle and Chelsea lose

In other EPL games on matchday 31, Manchester United won over Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the away game, thanks to a goal and an assist from Antony.

The Red Devils rose to third place after the victory, surpassing Newcastle who lost 0-3 to Aston Villa at Villa Park on the same day.

Chelsea continued to suffer in poor condition, as they lost 1-2 to Brighton at Stamford Bridge, still in eleventh place and hopeless to finish this season as top four.

The Blue Lions’ club manager Frank Lampard lost all the three matches after his return.

Tottenham Hotspur encountered an upset as losing 2-3 to Bournemouth at home, failed to get closer to top four, they are now in fifth place with three points behind Newcastle and one more game played.
