EPL Taking A Break As UEFA Nations League PlayingLONDON – The English Premier League and other European major leagues including Spanish LaLiga, Italian Serie A, German Bundesliga and French Ligue 1 will pause for this week, to make way for the UEFA Nations League which resume the matchday 5 and 6 of group stage.

The Nations League season 2022-24 involves 55 national teams, from 14 groups which are divided into League A, B, C and D. The League A with four groups and 16 teams are more focused competitions, as they are participating by favoured or giant teams such as France, England, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands and Italy.

There will be 16 matches for the League A in the coming week, to complete the last two rounds for the group stage. After the group matches finished, the tournament will proceed to the round of 16 as the kick-off stage.

 

Focused Games in Matchday 5

For matchday 5 of League A in UEFA Nations League, the focused games are Poland against Netherlands, where the two times Ballon d’Or winner Robert Lewandowski will lead the home team to face the Orange squad. Meanwhile, the FIFA World Cup 2018 runner-up, Croatia will meet Denmark on the same Thursday.

The defending champion of this tournament as well as World Cup holder, France will play against Austria, while Belgium will meet Wales. In another match to be focused, Italy will face England, which is also the replay of the Euro Cup 2020 final, where the Blue squad defeated the Three Lions in the penalties shootout to hail the title.

The other matchday 5 games are Germany against Hungary, Spain face Switzerland and Czech meet Portugal.

 

Matchday 6: End of Group Stage

The matchday 6 of Nations League will complete the group stage and decide all teams’ standings, either advanced to next round or to be eliminated.

Denmark will face France on Sunday, Wales against Poland, and the game between Netherlands and Belgium shall be focused.

Meanwhile, England will have another tough game to face Germany next Monday, which will be challenging for them three days after the rivalry with Italy.

Hungary will meet Italy, Switzerland will face Czech, while the match between Portugal and Spain will be favoured too, as Cristiano Ronaldo trying to lead his country to fight for probably his last national title.

 

Less Favoured Tournament

The UEFA Nations League matchday 5 and 6 will be the last appearance for those national teams before the Qatar FIFA World Cup, which will be held from 21st November to 18th December.

This is an opportunity for national teams coaches to observe and arrange the players, to decide their best squad to participate in the World Cup competition.

However, those teams might not be looking too seriously at the title, which they are focusing on the Qatar tournament, therefore, those players might not be playing too hard, to prevent injuries and keep their best condition for the World Cup.

Anyway, the teams which missed out the Qatar World Cup such as Italy, shall be concentrated on the Nations League, as their players will be free in the winter this year.
