Man City need only one more win to retain EPL title

LONDON – Manchester City need only one more win from their remaining three matches to become the English Premier League season 2022/23 champion.

The Blue Moons are just a matter of time away from retaining the title, as well as their fifth league trophy in the last six EPL seasons.

The Cities are now in first place steadily with 85 points and 35 games played, four points ahead of Arsenal which are one more game played.

The race of the EPL title almost came to an end after both the competitors finished their matches on Sunday with the same results of 0-3 but on the different side.

Gundogan and Haaland beat Toffees

City left Goodison Park with an easy 3-0 victory over Everton yesterday, receiving an outstanding eleven consecutive wins in the Premier League.

The guest teams dominated the game against the number 17 club, getting two scores from captain Ilkay Gundogan and another goal from superb forward Erling Haaland.

This was Haaland’s 36th EPL goal this season, continuing to update his goal record of a player in a Premier League season.

Pep Guardiola reserved a few main players in order to focus on the UEFA Champions League semi final second leg against Real Madrid this Wednesday, including playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, but it didn’t stop his squad to beat the Toffees with a less effort.

Arsenal lose 0-3 to Brighton

On the other hand, Man City’s only competitor in the championship, surprisingly lost 0-3 to Brighton and Hove Albion at Emirates Stadium, almost destroyed their tiny hope to claim the title this month.

After a few threatful attempts in the first half, the Gunners collapsed in the last forty minutes, conceding three goals by Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan.

After the disastrous failure at home, the Red London’s club manager Mikel Arteta and team captain Martin Odegaard admitted that they had lost the league trophy this season.

Manchester City will successfully defend the title in advance if they can defeat Chelsea at Etihad Stadium this Sunday.

Top 4 maintain positions

Brighton is now in sixth with 58 points and 34 matches played, standing a chance to rise to top five or even fourth at the end of this season.

In the earliest game of last Saturday, Newcastle could only draw 2-2 against Leeds United at Elland Road, maintaining third place but having the same points as Manchester United.

United hunted Wolverhampton 2-0 down at Old Trafford on the same day, thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and substitute winger Alejandro Garnacho.

Despite the race of third place among themselves, the Magpies and the Red Devils are in danger as they might be overtaken by Liverpool in the remaining three games.

Upcoming: Leicester Vs Liverpool

On Monday night, Liverpool will visit Leicester City to seek seven consecutive wins, and challenge for the top four positions for a ticket into the Champions League next season.

However, the Reds expect a tough resistance from the Blue Foxes at King Power Stadium, who are now in second from the bottom, putting their best effort to avoid relegation.

The winner of EPL season 2015/16 is two points behind No.17 Everton with three matches left.
