Man United Draw to End Winning Streaks at Old Trafford

Manchester United

MANCHESTER – A 2-2 draw against Leeds United terminated Manchester United’s record of thirteen consecutive wins at Old Trafford.

In the English Premier League make-up game of matchday 8, the Red Devils were unable to collect three points, to equal their points with the number two Manchester City.

The third place team once lost 0-2, by an early score from Wilfried Gnonto in the first minute, and another own goal from Raphael Varane in the starting of the second half.

Head coach Erik ten Hag then sent on Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri in the 59th minute, the substitutions took effect very soon.

Marcus Rashford scored the home team’s first goal in three minutes after the adjustment, while Sancho equalised the score in the 70th minute.

Sancho Remarkable Comeback

This is the 22 years old young talent’s first EPL goal since 160 days ago.

The English winger who joined from Borussia Dortmund with 85 million Euros in 2021, had a poor condition this season, being listed out from the first line-up for almost four months.

He was also eliminated from the national squad of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, giving him a huge frustration as a rising superstar.

However, after a well recovery treatment from Ten Hag with patience, for both mental and physical, Sancho is now proving that he is still worth a place in United’s best formation.

Jadon’s comeback makes the wingers more competitive among the team, as well as Brazilian Antony, Argentinian Alejandro Garnacho and Pellistri.

Miss Two Points to Equalise City

Manchester United’s draw against Leeds made them miss an opportunity to equalise the points with the Cities.

The Red Devils are now 43 points, two behind their derby rival with one more game played, while three points ahead of Newcastle.

Leeds United who were led by three assistant managers in the Wednesday match, after they sacked their team manager Jesse Marsch recently, rose to sixteenth place, the same points and same goal difference as West Ham but have more goals conceded.

Upcoming: Leeds Vs Red Devils

What makes it interesting is, both the teams will meet again in the Premier League matchday 23 this Sunday, where Leeds will welcome the Red Devils at Elland Road.

Manchester United hope to collect three points this weekend, to avoid being surpassed by Newcastle, and getting closer to the top two.

The Whites expect to stay unbeaten after Marsch is gone, or even make surprise to take down the giant club, to stay away from the relegation zone.

In the other EPL games this weekend, Chelsea will visit West Ham in Saturday’s earliest match, looking for their first victory after the winter transfer window.

Leicester City will meet Tottenham Hotspur, while Arsenal will face Brentford to retain their leading advantage.

On Sunday, Manchester City will play against Aston Villa, while Liverpool will meet Everton in the Merseyside derby.
