UEFA Champions League Group Stage UpdateMUNICH/LONDON: The UEFA Champions League season 2022/23 finished their seven matches of group stage’s matchday 2 on Tuesday.

In the focused match, Germany top team Bayern Munich defeated Spanish giant club Barcelona 2-0 at Allianz Arena, thanks to goals from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane.

After two consecutive wins, Bayern stood at top of group C which was considered as the “Group of Death” with six points, while Barca and Inter Milan at second and third place with three points each.

Inter won Viktoria Plzen 2-0 in the away game, with goals from Edin Dzeko and Denzel Dumfries, making the Czech club standing at bottom of group with no points.

 

Liverpool Beat Ajax, Get First Win

In group A, the runner-up of last season Liverpool won 2-1 over Dutch club Ajax at Anfield Stadium after a thrilling battle.

Mohamed Salah helps The Reds to take the lead with a goal in the 17th minute, while Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus equalised the score after 10 minutes.

Joel Matip became the home team’s hero with a late score in 89’, helping Liverpool to collect three points, as well as their first win in this season UCL.

The English club head coach Jurgen Klopp could be relieved after the win, as his team had low performance in recent matches, including a 1-4 shameful loss in matchday 1.

The Reds are now standing in second place of group A, same as three points as Ajax. The leading team Napoli will face Rangers which is at the bottom as matchday 2 tonight.

 

Spurs and Atletico Lost

English club Tottenham Hotspurs lost 0-2 to Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon in the away game of group D, getting their first defeat in this season for both Premier League and Champions League.

With goals from Paulinho in the 90th minute and Arthur in the 90+3’, Sporting created a dramatic victory at the ending part of the game, while Spurs lost their fire after 2-0 win over Marseille in matchday 1.

In another game of group D, Eintracht Frankfurt beat Marseille 1-0 in an away game, thanks to the only goal from Jesper Lindstrom, giving the French club two consecutive losses in UCL.

Another Bundesliga team Bayer Leverkusen won 2-0 over Spanish club Atletico Madrid, with scores from Robert Andrich and Moussa Diaby.

Both the teams are standing at second and third place of group B with three points each, with Club Brugge leading the group with six points, after winning Porto 4-0 in an away game.

 

9 Games for Matchday 2 To Go

Another nine games for UCL group stage matchday 2 will be played on this Wednesday, including few of focused matches involving the favourites of champions this season.

The defending champion Real Madrid will face RB Leipzig at Bernabeu Stadium, Paris Saint-Germain against Maccabi Haifa in the away game of group H, and Manchester City versus Borussia Dortmund in group G is the most focused game among them.
