UCL Last 8 1st leg: Madrid beat Chelsea, Milan 1-0 Napoli

Karim Benzema

MADRID – Real Madrid and AC Milan hold an advantage to march into the UEFA Champions League season 2022/23 semi final, by winning the first leg in each of their home games on Wednesday.

At Bernabeu Stadium, Real Madrid is pretty close to qualify into the Last 4 after they beat Chelsea 2-0 last night.

The defending champion didn’t fail their fans in the Spain capital, hunting the Blue Lions down with a dominating performance.

Karim Benzema scored the home team’s opening goal in the 27th minute, while another score from substitute Marco Asensio in the 74’ gave the White Squad a bigger superiority during their visit at Stamford Bridge next week.

Ben Chilwell from the visiting team was sent off in the 59’ after he received a second yellow card which turned into red.

The LaLiga giant club’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti gave his former club a suffering predicament to overturn the aggregate at London.

Benzema breaks records

Benzema continued his fiery performance yesterday and broke a few goal records.

The Frenchman became the fourth player to score 90 goals in UCL history, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski.

The 35 years old forward has scored a total of 18 goals this year, the most in the European major leagues as many as Erling Haaland.

The Real Madrid captain also netted 21 goals in his last 21 appearances in the Champions League qualification stages.

AC Milan small win over Napoli

In another match played at the same time, AC Milan secured a slight advantage by defeating SSC Napoli in the Italian civil war at San Siro.

The only goal last night from Ismael Bennacer in the 40th minute helped the home team to beat the Blue Squad twice in two weeks, after they won 4-0 in the away game in the Serie A on 2nd April.

The seven times European winner seems to have more experience and more power than their opponent in the UCL, although Napoli is almost confirmed to hail the domestic league title this season.

If the Red and Black Squad succeed to stay unbeaten in Naples next week, they might meet Inter Milan in the semi final, to perform another Milan derby in the European competition since 2005.

Upcoming: Man United Vs Sevilla

After the Champions League, the UEFA Europa League quarter final first leg will be played on Thursday night.

The clash between Manchester United and Sevilla will be a focused show, as the Red Devils face a huge challenge from the six times winner at Old Trafford.
