UCL: Madrid and AC Milan into Champions League semi final

Madrid and AC Milan

LONDON/ROMA – Real Madrid and AC Milan are the semi finalists of the UEFA Champions League season 2022/23 after they qualified from the quarter final on Tuesday.

At Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, AC Milan terminated the hope of SSC Napoli to reverse the 0-1 aggregate, with a 1-1 draw in the away game to advance into the UCL Last 4 after a long wait of 16 years.

Milan forward Olivier Giroud missed a penalty in the 21st minute, but made it up with an opening goal before the first half ended through an assist from Rafael Leao.

The home team, desperate to net their first goal in the two rounds battle, finally equalised the score by a header from Victor Osimhen in the additional time of the second half, but it was too late to save them from being knocked out.

The seven times European winner showed their capability in the continental event, although the Italian Serie A leading team is the favoured one before the stage started.

The Red and Black Squad will appear in the semi final after season 2006/07, when they won their last UCL title.

If Inter Milan marches into the next stage by eliminating Benfica tonight, the Milan derby will feature again in the Champions League after 18 years.

Another Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

At Stamford Bridge, Real Madrid proved that they are the best club in European competition, with another 2-0 victory over Chelsea, advancing into the semi final for three consecutive seasons with aggregate 4-0.

The defending champion gave the Blue Lions no chance to score within 180 minutes, some more added two goals from Rodrygo in the 58th and 80th minutes.

The home team’s head coach Frank Lampard did make his squad play with a high performance in the first half, but Carlo Ancelotti’s adjustments to the visiting team gave Chelsea no opportunity to overturn the total score.

The Spanish giant will probably face another club from the English Premier League, Manchester City in the semi final. The Blue Moons are leading 3-0 over Bayern Munich before the second leg.

If this happens, both powerhouses will meet again in the Last 4 since last season. Madrid knocked the Cities out with aggregate 6-5 last year and hailed their 14th UCL trophy in the final.

Upcoming: Sevilla Vs Man United

After the UEFA Champions League quarter-final completed this Wednesday, the UEFA Europa League quarter final second leg will be played on Thursday night.

The clash between Sevilla and Manchester United will be the most focused show.

Both teams drew 2-2 at Old Trafford last week, giving the Spanish club a slight advantage at home tomorrow.

The Red Devils lost a few of main players due to injuries or suspensions, including Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Marcel Sabitzer.

Therefore, the six times UEL winner is the favoured one to eliminate United at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
