UCL Round of 16 1st Leg: Bayern Beat PSG, Milan Pull Spurs

Lionel Messi

PARIS – Bayern Munich and AC Milan have a good start in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, after they beat Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur each with 1-0 in the first leg.

Bayern hailed a vital victory in the away game on Tuesday night, depressing PSG with a deciding goal from Kingsley Coman in the 53th minute.

Coman, who was raised in the French giant club’s youth training system, refused to celebrate his score to show his respect.

The 26 years old winger had also netted the only goal in the UCL Final 2020, helped the German powerhouse to defeat the same opponent 1-0 and lift the trophy.

However, the visiting team’s defender Benjamin Pavard was sent off with his second yellow card in the additional time of the second half last night, resulting in suspension for their second meeting.

The Disappointed MNM

The loss of PSG was mostly blamed on the low performance of the MNM trio, which are the greatest attacking combination nowadays.

Lionel Messi who just recovered from an injury was playing below his top class level, while Neymar maintained his unconvincing condition recently.

Kylian Mbappe is the only home team superstar who had chances to overturn the result, but two of his successful shots were cancelled by the referee.

Although the French striker was substituted in the 57th minute, he was still able to threaten Bayern’s defence without totally recovering from his hamstring injury.

Both teams will play the second leg on 8th March at Allianz Arena, the home team at Munich having a bright opportunity to advance into the quarter final with 1-0 aggregate now.

Diaz Braces Milan’s Well Begun

At San Siro, AC Milan gained a good start in the knockout stage by sending Tottenham home in an upset, thanks to an early goal from Brahim Diaz in the seventh minute.

Both teams are in unsatisfactory performance this season, the same in fifth place of the Italian Serie A and English Premier League.

Milan showed their higher level as the seven times European champions, sealing Antonio Conte’s squad in the Italian head coach’s return to his motherland.

The Champions League runner-up in 2019 holding a slight chance to perform a comeback at London three weeks after.

Upcoming: Dortmund Vs Chelsea

Another two matches of UCL round of 16 first leg will be played this Wednesday night.

The clash of giants between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea will be focused.

The German Bees are expected to stay unbeaten against the Blue Lions, who had low conditions in the Premier League.

Club Brugge will meet Benfica at the same time.

The Belgian club who played as a dark horse this season might make another surprise by taking down the Portuguese giant, who just sold their best player Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea last month.

Another four matches of the UCL qualifying stage will continue next Tuesday and Wednesday.
