UCL Last 8 1st leg: Man City 3-0 Bayern, Benfica 0-2 Inter

Rodri

MANCHESTERManchester City and Inter Milan are pretty close to the UEFA Champions League season 2022/23 semi final, after their steady wins in the quarter final first leg.

On Tuesday night at Etihad Stadium, the Cities showed their brilliant strength to fight for their first European championship in club history, by beating Bayern Munich 3-0, holding an enormous advantage in the two rounds stage.

This clash of the giants didn’t perform as intensive or thrilling as expected, the Blue Moons gave the German powerhouse no chances to score, while frequently threatening and destroying the visiting team’s defence.

The English Premier League reigning champion received an opening goal from Rodri through a fantastic long shot, plus two scores from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland.

Pep Guardiola again proved his determination to bring City a UCL trophy, showing no mercy to crush his former club before he returns to Allianz Arena next week.

Haaland breaks records again

Haaland, who contributed a goal and an assist last night, was breaking at least two goal records.

The Norwegian has scored a total of 45 goals this season, surpassing Mohamed Salah and Ruud van Nistelrooy to hold the record of most goals by an EPL player across all competitions in a season.

The 22 years old forward has collected 34 Champions League goals in 26 appearances, the fastest record to achieve this as well.

The number nine is expected to update his record since Man City has at least eleven matches to play this season, including EPL, UCL and FA Cup.

Inter Milan celebrates away game

In the same night, Inter Milan defeated Benfica 2-0 in the away game, grabbing a promising chance to become a Champions League semi finalist.

An opening score from Nicolo Barella and a penalty kick from Romelu Lukaku gave Internazionale a remarkable victory at Estadio da Luz, knocking the Portuguese club’s journey as a dark horse.

The Primeira Liga leading team who beat Juventus twice and drew against PSG twice in the UCL group stage, seems to have reduced their power after they sold Enzo Fernandez last January.

If the Blue and Black Squad succeed to eliminate Benfica at San Siro next week, they will meet either AC Milan or Napoli in the semi final, making there at least an Italian club to appear in the grand final.

Upcoming: Real Madrid meet Chelsea

On Wednesday night, Real Madrid will play against Chelsea at Bernabeu Stadium.

The UCL defending champion expects to win with at least one goal at home, given that the Blue Lions are in poor condition, which were unable to win in their last four matches.

The Spanish giant knocked Liverpool out with an aggregate 6-2 in the round of 16, proving that they have a superiority to fight English teams.

Meanwhile, the London club’s new head coach Frank Lampard could only hope his squad to perform in over quality tonight, to leave Spain with at least a draw game.
