UCL Matchday 2: Madrid, City and PSG Win

Champions League Matchday 2 Updates & Highlights

The UEFA Champions League group stage had completed matchday 2, with seven games on Wednesday and nine on Thursday.

In the focused match on Thursday, Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 with a strong comeback, thanks to a deciding goal from Erling Haaland, who scored against his former club.

Another favourite of UCL champions this season, Real Madrid beat 2-0 over RB Leipzig in the away game, to keep marching as a defending champion.

The French giant club Paris Saint-Germain won 3-1 over Maccabi Haifa in the away game as well, with goals from the Super Trio Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Madrid, Man City and PSG are all getting two consecutive wins in UCL, and standing at top of each group.

 

Liverpool Won, Chelsea Draw, Spurs Lose

Besides The City, another English Premier League club Liverpool had won in matchday 2, while Chelsea got a draw and Tottenham Hotspurs lost.

Liverpool, the runner-up of last season, defeated Dutch club Ajax at Anfield Stadium, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip, to get their first three points in the group, after a 1-4 defeat to Napoli last week.

Chelsea continued their poor results after a 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg at Stamford Stadium, still haven’t got a victory in this season’s UCL, as they lost 0-1 to Dinamo Zagreb in matchday 1.

Another London club Tottenham lost 0-2 to Portugal team Sporting in the away game, losing both goals in the second half additional time.

 

Bayern Win Barca, Juventus Lose Again

In another focused match between two giant clubs, German top team Bayern Munich defeated 2-0 over Spanish club Barcelona, thanks to goals from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane.

The two times Ballon d’Or winner, Polish striker Robert Lewandowski from Barca, was unable to score against his former club which brought him several awards and honours.

Meanwhile, the former UCL winner, Italian giant club Juventus is still in low performance, after 1-2 loss to Portugal team Benfica at home.

 

The Fate of Italian Clubs

“The Zebras” accepted two consecutive losses in the group, after 1-2 defeated by PSG last week, giving them stress to qualify into round of 16.

Another Italian club Napoli showed their great condition in this season, with 3-0 victory over Glasgow Rangers in the away game, getting two consecutive wins to keep leading the group.

Napoli remained unbeaten in both Serie A and Champions League in this season, while they stood at top of the domestic league with four wins and two draws.

Another former UCL champion from Italy, AC Milan won 3-1 over Dinamo Zagreb at San Siro Stadium, getting one win and one draw, leading the group with four points.

Meanwhile, the rival of AC Milan, Inter Milan defeated 2-0 against Viktoria Plzen in the away game, getting their first three points in group C which is considered as “The Group of Death”.
