UCL R16: Bayern Double Kill PSG, AC Milan Eliminate Spurs

Lionel Messi

MUNICH/LONDON – Bayern Munich and AC Milan become the third and fourth quarter finalists of the UEFA Champions League season 2022/23.

Bayern defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 at Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, succeeded to double kill the French giant club after the first bout three weeks ago.

The German powerhouse played as a stronger squad overall, compared to the visitors which depended on Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

The home team striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting netted the opening goal against his former club in the 61st minute, plus another score from Serge Gnabry in 89’, set the aggregate as 3-0.

After the victory, Bayern is undoubtedly one of the top favourites of the UCL winners this season, as well as their seventh European championship.

The Fate of Super Trio

Paris again failed to hail their first ever European title in the club history, making the Super Trio undecided of their future.

Messi and Mbappe seem too difficult to lead PSG in their mission of UCL, while Neymar is losing his role as a core playmaker with frequent injuries and unstable performance.

Compared to the South Americans duo, Mbappe is more likely to leave his homeland club. The 24 years old superstar who helped France to win the FIFA World Cup 2018 and awarded himself the World Cup 2020 Golden Boot, still desperate for his first UCL trophy.

Messi and Neymar, who had won Champions League titles by serving Barcelona, are probably bidding farewell to Ligue 1 too, because of another disappointment in the European competition and their expensive salaries too.

If the magnificent MNM left, PSG, owned by a rich Qatar institution, will lose their halo as a super deluxe club who gathered the currently world best players.

Milan Gives Spurs Nothing This Season

In another match of the UCL round of 16 second leg yesterday, AC Milan gained a draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the away game, to march into the quarter final again since eleven years ago with aggregate 1-0.

The seven times European winner showed their signature defence power in the 90 minutes, sealing the Spurs’ firepower from their attacking trio Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Richarlison.

The White London is probably unable to win any titles again for 15 years.

Antonio Conte’s squad had been eliminated in the FA Cup, and they are highly unlikely to win the Premier League trophy this season, instead of pursuing the top four.

Upcoming: Europa League

The UEFA Europa League round of 16 first leg will be played this Thursday right after the UCL event.

Arsenal will visit Portuguese club Sporting CP, aiming to stay unbeaten in the first meeting.

The Gunners who lead the EPL table are hunting two trophies this season.

The Red Devils seek to recover from their 0-7 tragic loss against Liverpool in the Premier League last Sunday.
