EFL Cup Final: Man United and Newcastle Fight for Trophy

EFL Cup

MANCHESTER – The EFL Cup or Carabao Cup completed its two rounds of semi finals, to decide the last two teams in the final on 26th February.

Manchester United double killed Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the semi final second leg at Old Trafford yesterday, booking another ticket into the grand finale.

With two goals from Anthony Martial and Fred, the Red Devils advanced with aggregate 5-0, showing their outstanding ability to fight for their sixth title.

Their team manager Erik ten Hag is hoping to be the second head coach to give United at least a trophy in his first season after Alex Ferguson’s era, along with Jose Mourinho.

They are also the only Premier League club who are able to win four championships this season, plus the domestic league, the FA Cup and UEFA Europa League.

The Better Squad

Manchester United continued their fiery condition after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, getting eleven wins, only one draw and a loss in the last thirteen matches.

The Red Devils’ remarkable results are credited for the brilliant management by Ten Hag, also great performance from several players, especially Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

Rashford made an assist in the victory against Forest last night, while Casemiro maintained his role as a superb defending midfielder who controlled the ball nicely in the middle court.

Although they have a higher probability to win the EFL Cup three weeks after, United is expecting a tough battle against Newcastle who is rising as another EPL giant club.

Newcastle Eliminate Saints

The Magpies knocked Southampton out in another semi final with aggregate 3-1.

They beat the Saints 1-0 in the away game on Tuesday, thanks to the only goal from Joelinton.

The rich club owned by Saudi corporate, is now in third place of the Premier League, the same points as Manchester United with better goal difference.

They got six wins and three draws in their last ten matches, plus a loss against Sheffield Wednesday last month to be eliminated in the FA Cup third round.

It is not surprising that Newcastle could defeat United in the Carabao Cup final if Eddie Howe’s squad played their best performance in the battle of the championship.

Transfer News: Sabitzer and Gordon

In the winter transfer window which closed on 31st January, both the clubs have signed or loaned a few players to strengthen their team.

Manchester United announced the loan of Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich.

The 28 years old Austrian could relieve the task of current midfield teammates such as Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

The Red Devils didn’t spend a lot in this transfer window, as the club owner, the Glazers family will sell this world’s most popular club soon.

Newcastle signed Anthony Gordon from Everton to improve their firepower.

The 21 years old English forward’s transfer fee is 45.6 million Euros.
